Bamacross races III and IV were this past weekend. The double days tested the racers’ muscles and endurance to stick things out as they powered through the very long course at the Gadsden Softball Complex. There was headwind, there were long stretches to sprint but most notably there was mud…nasty, thick Peter Pan Peanut Buttery mud.
But to make matters worse someone got our queen of insults and heckling, The Bamacross beer fairy, an entire PA system. It’s bad enough that you have to ride by her and she’s yelling tons of insults at you but with enormous giant speakers? You couldn’t escape her hate chatter from anywhere on the track. It was so agonizing!
For Bamacross III and IV, the racer categories were lumped together to compensate for time since we left the magical city of Birmingham and went to the magicaller city of Gadsden. Those who stayed for the entire weekend camped at the oh-so beautiful Nocolula falls. Wow, what an amazing place to camp!

many BX racers roasted their shoes to dry out from the day’s muddy track. Only to get them soppin’ wet again!
Afterparty and Sundays, Bamacross Style
After the first race we had an awards and a party at Gadsden’s very own Back40 Brewery where your bib # got you 2 free pints of their delicious IPA and a few dollahz got you some absolutely delectable tacos carnitas.
The usual Bamacross suspects faced opposition by some visitors from Chattanooga, Hub Endurance Chattanooga, who manage to clean house winning anything they entered. Amy Phillips, Spencer Whittier, Alan Dawkins and Crystal Henry managed to scoop up Mens 1,2,3 and women’s 4. Good job guys, now go back to that hellhole in Tennesee and don’t come back until we can put a whoopin’ on you! (please note the saaaarcasm there. Chattanooga is lovely).
Oh there was also Ex-Birminghamian Beth Santaro, who was completely demolished by me in Men’s Cat 4. Can I getta amen!? (She also took Women’s 1/2/3)
Birmingham’s locals also scooped up some nice wins as Omar Fraser took 3rd in Cat 1/2 following him was Will Fyfe. Our unbelievably awesome youngster Jerry Dufour had a mechanical problem however every time I saw him he was hammering and didn’t even look tired! How are you doing this, son!? Also, Jacob Tubbs scooped up 3rd in Cat4 as well.
Bamacross also made the front page of the Gadsden Times, something I wish the Birmingham Times would stand up and take notice! You listening Birmingham News?
Pix or it didn’t happen!
Yeah, they are coming, the pictures that is. For now, here are some awesome shots by my wife done in a video style. Stay tuned for updates.

Nice, Kate! Glad you taught Scott a thing or two about photography and video. Someone needed to do it. Love the song. Who is it?
