Training and Heavy Mountain Bike Gear = heavy on the legs

Here in the southeast we’ve been rather dry and have needed some rain.  The trails have been super dusty and every creepy crawly is out hunting for water scaring the women folk to death.  My coach started ramping up my training for the Trans North Georgia Adventure race (the TNGA) and of course, the very first hard training session I had, it poured.  Couple this with my new heavy mountain bike gear and whew doggy…my legs hate me now

Generally I’d bitch and moan about this but we need the rain really, really bad and I need to get adjusted to dealing with showers.  So each training ride I did for the past four or five days has been me dealing with a torrential downpour and then the sun coming out causing all sorts of mad humidity.

The other adjustment is getting the  gear right on my bike.  My new setup has me rather front weighted which has lent itself to two things:

  1. Climbing brings on a whole new meaning of Hell
  2. Going down rapidly brings on a whole new meaning of Hell

So I’m adjusting.

Generally I do not take many pictures while training however with the rain and pretty views I had to snap a few.  Enjoy!

Adam's Gap

I’m planning for a rather lengthy ride across the Talledega National Forest so I rode. This picture was a stop to see how far between here and a place to get water.

Peavine Road Climb

My first climb up Peavine Road at Oak Mountain State Park. It was a doozie with the extra weight!

Mountain Bike Gear

I’m going to be reviewing and writing up all my heavy gear on my bike soon enough.  It’s gonna be a tight week with focusing on the TNGA and of course, that thing you have to do to earn money but I’ll have it up very soon!

I'm an graphic designer who loves biking no matter if it's road, cross or mountain biking. I love it all. I live in Birmingham, Alabama and design t-shirts, work for companies like the Wall Street Journal and teach as an associate professor at two of the local Universities.

I’d probably stop and admire those views too. What’s the bag you have attached to the back of the seatpost? Never seen one like that before.

That’s Topeak’s mondo xl! Good for the TNGA. Would not use them or the divide.
