The TourDivide. It’s the race I’ll be doing is in less than 11 months (man that’s nerve-wracking). It’s currently 2,780 and it’s a race from Canada to Mexico following the Continental Divide. It’s said to be the toughest bike race in the world. The Cordillera is it’s literary journal and it’s mission is to capture the stories and soul of the Continental Divide.
A cordillera is an extensive chain of mountains or mountain ranges. The term derives from the Spanish cordilla, a diminutive of cuerda, or “cord”. It is most commonly used in the field of physical geography.
The book is great and has a collection of stories about racing the TourDivide and it also helps to raise money for Linneae Blumentahl, daughter of late Tour Divide racer Dave Blumenthal. Dave collided with a vehicle on the Divide and passed away on June 24, 2010. Dave lived a full life being a an outdoorsman, thru-hiked Vermont’s Long Trail and then the Pacific Crest Trail with his wife in 2004.
The Cordillera has raised over $9,000.00 for Linneae (and the Adventure Cycling Association ((ACA)) who created the route) and this year I did the cover for issue #3.
If you’d like to purchase one of these, click here. You’ll be happy to know your money will go both to Linneae’s college fund and the ACA.
